Inherent in the core of everyone is the innate desire to be recognized, to lead, and to be given a pride of place. Martin Luther King explains it better with the term Drum Major Instinct. He acknowledges that wanting recognition and importance is normal, but he also warns against allowing these desires to lead to selfishness and arrogance. ¶He further suggests using this instinct as a force for positive change, serving others and promoting justice.¶
